General Assistant

Part Time

Reporting to the Cashier Department Head (or his/her delegates), the General Assistant is responsible to provide good service to our customers by building rapport, fulfilling their requests and providing fast and accurate checkout and packing service.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Greet customers by providing good customer service with smile, friendly enthusiasm
2. Maintain shopping baskets and trolleys cleanliness and ensure they are placed in the proper locations
3. Put returning merchandise back to sale area properly; timely processing of fresh and frozen goods; prevent and minimize shortages
4. Provide customer with proper packing services (light items on top of heavy items, separation of hot and cold, raw and cooked classification) if necessary
5. Create good customer experience via delivering fast and accurate checkout service, prevent possible fraud (PLU # input, Scan merchandise, transaction discrepancies, identify counterfeit/fake cards), if necessary
6. Monitor checkout stations to ensure that they are well-kept and are working appropriately; maintain checkout area cleanliness
7. Keep self-updated with products location in-store and all in-store promotion activities, to assist other departments to provide correct responses to customers

Other Responsibilities:
1. Record totals of transactions and calculate total payments received during a time period accurately, if necessary
2. Perform carry out service, assist customers to deliver goods from the store to their cars, if necessary
3. Assist Receiving department when needed
4. Replace, count and replenish consumables and supplies as required by the department
5. Provide good customer service at Customer Service Counter, such as answering phone calls etc
6. Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior

3. Possess a positive, proactive, self-motivated work attitude
4. Good attendance record, comply with company's rules and regulations

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
1. Flexible to work in shifts, including weekdays, weekends, evening hours and statutory holidays
2. Be prepared to stand for a long time and able to use work-related tools in a safe manner
3. Able to communicate in English and Chinese (Cantonese &/or Mandarin) an asset
4. Knowledge of basic work safety, Canadian currencies, and essential mathematics
5. Relevant experience in handling cash is preferred
