Wanna be one of those guys with enviable hair? Some of it’s just lucky genes for sure, but you can make the most of the mane you’ve got with a few easy tips.
If your hair (or your scalp) is on the dry side, don’t wash it too often. Every time you shower is probably too often, unless you tend towards oily hair – or you’re diligent about conditioning. Be sure to use products designed for men and their hair-care needs.
Turn down the heat
When you’re washing your hair, your shower water shouldn’t be piping hot. Very hot water strips the hair of essential oils. So keep the water lukewarm or moderately hot.
If you go for the quick-dry by rubbing your hair vigourously with a towel, you should know that this can be damaging to the hair cuticle. Gently pat your hair of excess moisture instead. This is especially important if your hair is showing signs of thinning.
Limit blow drying
If you’re in a rush, you certainly can give your hair a quick blow dry at a low cool setting. Otherwise, it’s best to just let your hair air-dry. Harsh heat is hard on the scalp and on the hair.
Keep it trimmed
Keep it trimmed
Frequent trims will keep your hair looking healthier – especially if you go for the popular high tight cut, which is short on the sides and longer, higher on top (a look that suits most guys and transitions well from work to social to play) – add gel sparingly to the top to keep hair looking full and lifted.
Hair that grows…elsewhere
The older you get, the more those bushy hairs show up in places you don’t want, like the ears and nose. Can you say “trimmer”? Do some man-scaping and tidy up those pesky stragglers.
